New Year…New Security Rules
2008 is Here, and we’ll only be able to use it as an opening thought for a few more posts. Many exciting things have happened to our luggage in recent weeks. Let’s talk about the security screening process a bit.
The picture is from the TSA’s SimpliFLY page. The idea, and certainly better than some other [...]

Flights from Hell
We don’t appreciate the media reporting airline delays as Flights from Hell. It seems too much hype as opposed to more useful reporting.
Reuters comments that if airlines “want to ensure long-term survival, they say they have no choice but to restrain capacity, fill as many seats as possible and cut costs wherever they can.”
It is [...]

Investigators say that fatigued air traffic controllers contributed to four aviation mishaps in recent years…including the Comair crash. They are calling on the FAA to revise work schedules and take other action. Their union jumped on the report as validation of its own claims that air traffic controllers are overworked and understaffed. Details available here.

Imams Sue for Discrimination
We are not surprised that the Imams thrown off a flight last November are now suing for discrimination. While US Airways told them that they were banned, forcing them to take another airline home, they now claim that was a miscommunication and they are welcome back on the carrier.
US Airways, however, stands behind its employees [...]

Nine Year Old Boards Two Flights and Travels without Boarding Pass
We have to wonder how secure our airport security is if a nine year old kid can bypass it. Nine year old Semaj Booker ran away from home last week, the News-Tribune reports, hopping a Southwest Airlines flight from Seattle to Phoenix, then a flight to San Antonio, where he was taken into custody.

Advanced Scanning Techniques Not So Perfect
Hundreds of travelers today at Orlando’s McCoy International Airport were screened by machines designed to let passengers keep their shoes on their airport checkpoints. We are very much in favor of this…as no TSA agent has ever been able to tell us the last time anyone cleaned the floors.
Of fifty travellers, however, who used the [...]
