Washington’s Dulles Airport will be temporarily closing its newest runway to provide parking for a surge in private planes during the Obama Inauguration. The 9400 foot runway known as 1L/19R will be closed from January 16th through the 23rd. The airport is estimating some 500 private aircraft will arrive at Dulles. Three hundred arrived at the inauguration in 2004, the first year traffic was limited at Washington’s National Airport.

Many airlines are adding flights for this inauguration, at which they are expecting record attendance.

500 private aircraft!? The preponderance of all of these travelers cannot book a commercial flight?

    Not very “green”, is it?

No, it isn’t. But one could say the same thing about cars, we suppose…Why don’t more people take the bus or train?
