Use your Ipod on the Plane

Reuters reports that airline passengers will soon be able to connect their Ipods to in-flight entertainment systems as Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM, and United will offer Ipod seat connections for viewing and charging.

Apple’s Ipod dominates the digital music player market, and thus an Ipod charger would be a popular item on planes. However, we can’t help but feel that a more generic connector would be better. There is a standard for airplane power that is implemented on many airplanes that could allow the powering of any device, including an Ipod. An In-Flight Entertainment system could have standard audio and video inputs that were not device-specific.

As noted in the past, In-Flight Entertainment increases passenger satisfaction and distracts them from the cramped conditions and less than pleasant environment present in air travel in the modern age.
